Fall Landscape Preparation

Posted on by Urban Eden

Somehow, summer has all but ended and fall is upon us again here in Camas, Washougal, and Vancouver, Washington. Just as fall has seemed to sneak up, so has a new host of landscape tasks. Here are a few things you should consider doing before fall officially arrives.

Cleanup

Has it been a while since you cleaned up around your landscape? Are there piles of leaves and other debris still lying around your property? Or has nature simply been left to do what it does best and grow uninhibited? The beginning of fall is a great time to catch up on cleaning up your property as wind and rain will only make this task more difficult. Not to mention the leaves and other debris brought from approaching fall storms will only make this task more difficult later on.

Aeration and Dethatching

Over time, your lawn becomes compacted and full of debris which makes it more difficult for your lawn to flourish. That’s where aerating and dethatching come in. Dethatching is a process that removes built-up thatch from within your lawn. There are even more benefits to performing these two tasks but relieving compaction and removing thatch are two of the most helpful aspects.

Weeding

Fall is also a great time to catch up on weeds and other undesirable plants that have been overlooked throughout the rest of the year. At Urban Eden Landscaping, we strive to remove weeds as organically as possible, which means we generally remove them manually, by hand, and with specialized tools. Weeds left unchecked will especially flourish during the early months of fall, so it is best to get caught up with this task as soon as possible.

Mulching

Another great way to combat weeds is to put in a fresh layer of mulch in your garden and flowerbeds. Mulching blocks sunlight so that weeds cannot germinate as quickly. Laying mulch has other benefits as well; it combats erosion, insulates the soil to protect desirable plants, as well as adding nutrients to the soil over time. Mulch comes in a variety of styles and colors, so it’s easy to find something that fits your taste.

Maintenance

Staying caught up with these various tasks can be time-consuming and laborious. Adding routine mowing, edging, blowing and leaf cleanup to that list makes it even more daunting. Therefore, weekly maintenance from a skilled lawn care company, like Urban Eden, will make life that much easier. Let trained professionals care for your landscape so that all you have to do is enjoy it.

This list is a great place to start when it comes to preparing your lawn and landscape for fall.
